How Google Uses The Keywords Meta Tag

Having developed many websites, I have always endevoured to ensure that the keywords meta tag on each page contains meaningful keywords and well thought of in terms of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
I came across a VERY interesting video today by one of the Google Software Engineers that basically turned this thinking onto its head.
Sure Google isn’t the only search engine out there, but it is the big one and it is the engine that most of my clients are looking to rank highly in. So I’ll continue to make the keywords meta tag meaningful, but looks like pulling too much effort in here is not so productive!
Yes anyone can put any keyword into the meta tags but it means nothing. But if you have many links to your website with the keyword then that means that those websites are giving you a vote of confidence. They do use the meta description a lot to describe the site in the search results.
